Allen Julius Merkel

Allen was born June 2, 1939 in Crofton, Nebraska to Emery and Lucy (Borgheiinck) Merkel.
Allen married Del Rae Tramp on June 12, 1961 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, Nebraska. He was stationed at Ft. Carson, CO which inspired his family relocation to Denver, Colorado in 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Del Rae, two daughters, Lori (Dan) Elvera, Lynn Merkel and one son, Craig (Kristi) Merkel all residing in the Littleton, CO area. Four grandchildren, Taylor Merkel, Jordyn Merkel, Nicholas Elvera and Maria Merkel. One sister, Marlene Becker and three brothers, Charles Merkel, Don Merkel and Rick Merkel.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marvin Merkel and sister-in-law Judy Merkel.

Allen was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma in September 2013. His strength and determination to fight and live was insurmountable. He never complained, never wallowed in self-pity, never said, “why me” and never let his family know of his pain. He had faith that it was all part of God’s plan and said, “It is what it is.”
