Arlen "Carl" Suazo

Arlen (Carl) Suazo of Denver, Colorado passed away peacefully at VA Hospital on August 18th.  Carl was born October 29th, 1951 in Alamosa, Colorado and was the son of Al and Irene.  Carl grew up in Alamosa with parents and step sister Roberta.  Following his attendance at Alamosa high school where he excelled in Football, he decided to forgo a football scholarship and voluntarily enlist in the Military (Navy, 1968).  As a Combat Medic (Petty Officer) Carl proudly and selflessly served his country through two tours in Vietnam.  On May 28th, 1974, Carl was Honorably discharged from the United States Navy having been awarded several medals including the Bronze Star for acts of heroism.

Following his return from war Carl worked many positions including being a truck driver and machinist.  However, he is best known for being a Bartender where his ability to make people laugh and smile enabled him to thrive and be a highly sought-after talent for many years.  One of his favorite positions was at VFW Post 3971 where he was not only a member and one-time officer, but also a bartender.  Carl met many of his closest friends here.

In the fall of 1981, Carl married then sweetheart Terri Black and shortly thereafter, Terri gave birth to their only son, Dominic.  

Carls greatest joys in life were his son and spending time with his best friends whom he considered family.

Carl is proceeded in death by his parents Al and Irene and is survived by son Dominic M. Suazo and step sister Roberta Irene El-Bayoumy.

Military Funeral Services for Carl will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery "Staging Area "C" on August 28th at 11:15 a.m. (please arrive no later than 11:00 AM) followed by a reception at Gennero’s Café Italiano at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veterans Association or to the Wounded Warrior Program in Carls name.
