Berneice Marie Smith

May 10, 1936 ~ November 10, 2016 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Smith, Berneice Marie “Bernie” Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday November 10, 2016.  She and her identical twin Berneita were born on May 10, 1936 in Elwood, NE to Carl and Osa “Butts” Ecklund.  She grew up and attended Elwood Public Schools and then graduated from Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney where she met her husband Dayne Smith.  They were married on August 19th, 1956 in Elwood, NE.  She taught kindergarten for 30 years in the Littleton Colorado Public Schools.  After retirement, she worked part-time at Drinkwine Mortuary for 21 years.  She was a member of the National Education Association, the Colorado Education Association, the Optimist Club, A member of the Littleton United Methodist Church where she was the communion steward for 21 years, the American Cancer Society and valued to play bridge in several bridge clubs.  She loved cooking, travel, sports and music.

Bernie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dayne of Lone Tree, CO, daughter and son-in-law Cindy & Dave Tucker of Parker, CO, Lori Tooley of Parker, Twin sister Berneita (Jim) Mitchell of Bozeman, MT,  sister-in-law Doris (Larry) Keller of Madrid ,NE and Pat (Bernard) Johnson of Kearny, NE.,  son-in-law Richard Smiley of Dallas, TX. Grandchildren Michael (Nichole) Done, Matthew Tucker, Andrew “Drew” Tooley, Annie Tooley and Austin Smiley. Great grandchildren Stella & Vinny Tooley and Carson & Tanner Done.  Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her daughter Julie Smiley and brother Norris Ecklund.

Memorial services will be held on Friday November 18th at 10:30  in the Littleton United Methodist Church. Memorials in Bernie’s name may be made to American Cancer Society.
