Carol R. Miller

February 16, 1925 ~ January 14, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Carol R. Miller, formerly of Norwich, N. Y. passed away January 14th. at the age of 91 in Littleton, Colorado, in her daughter’s home. Carol passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born on February 16, 1925 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, daughter of Edward O. and Linnea Hildur Erickson. 

Carol was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, David A. Miller. Dave and Carol were high school sweethearts and their years together were filled with love and family. 

Carol graduated from Norwich High School in 1943. Upon graduation she worked at the Evening Sun as a proofreader, which she enjoyed. Most of Carol’s life, however, was spent as a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. 

Carol was active in the Norwich community and served as a volunteer at the Chenango County Historical Society, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, working with the disabled, and was instrumental in the startup and success of the Penguin Peak Ski Area. Carol was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norwich. She donated many gallons of blood during Red Cross blood drives. 

Carol loved nature and the outdoors. She hiked, camped, skied and liked identifying plants. She also enjoyed looking for fossils and minerals. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles and was a Scrabble master. She and Dave hand built a log cabin in Chenango County at which many happy events were held. Carol and Dave loved travel, and made many road trips to the west. 

Her husband Dave and her entire family cherished Carol. She was a sweet and kind mother and friend. Carol is survived by her six children, 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. 

Carol’s children loved her very much. She is survived by Eric and Lane Miller of Berthoud, Colorado; Connie and Mike Kane of Durango, Colorado; Judith and Tim Smith of Littleton, Colorado; Nancy and David Frey of Philippi, West Virginia; Shirley and Mark Fazio of Norwich, NY; Karen Miller and George Gallegos of Parker, Colorado. 

Carol was lovingly cared for by her children in their homes for the last four years. A private service will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family. Donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 10 West Park Place, Norwich, or the Norwich YMCA.
