Donald L. Marshall

Donald L. Marshall, PhD., A.I.A. passed from this world peacefully in his home on October 20, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Marshall and survived by his brother Robert Marshall along with his children Jillanna Brookshire, John Marshall and Donnis Roberts, his 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Don was born April 6, 1929 in Englewood, CO to George and Pauline Marshall. His early years were spent in a small home on Washington Street. He told of riding his bike to caddy at Wilshire Country Club beginning his life long love for the game of golf. 

He went into the Army Air Corps in 1947 and was stationed in England and Germany during the occupation. He left military service in 1950 but was recalled for the Korean War a few months later. It was during his military service that he first became a draftsman which began his life long passion for architecture. 

He met his wife Helen while she was doing her nursing internship at Children's Hospital in Denver. They were married in 1953 and lived in the first of the homes that he would build for his family.

He began his architectural firm in a small office in Englewood, In 1954 He became an active member of the Englewood Chamber of Commerce and Sertoma. He was an active member of the Littleton Church of Christ and later Englewood Church of Christ.

He incorporated his architectural firm in 2000 in partnership with his son and they continued to practice together up until his death. Of all the awards and recognition Don had received over his career, the one he was the most proud of was being awarded a PhD. in Architecture on October 10, 2016 from the San Francisco Institute of Architecture.

Memorial service will be held on October 26, 2016 at 11:00 am at Drinkwine Family Mortuary. Burial at Ft. Logan at 12:30. A reception will follow.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution to Mountain States Children's Home in Longmont, Colorado  http://www.msch.org/support.
