Jarrel Lee Boatright “Boaty”

March 24, 1938 – September 29, 2015

Jarrel Boatright, 77 years old, passed away at Sky Ridge Hospital in Lone Tree on September 29th, 2015. Visitation will take place at Drinkwine Chapel of Peace, 999 W. Littleton Blvd. from 4:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, October 4th. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, 1609 W. Littleton Blvd. at 10:30 am Monday, October 5th. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 6th.

Jarry was born on March 24th, 1938 in Colorado Springs to Otis and Marjorie Boatright. The youngest of three children, he is survived by his brother James Boatright and sister Jane Lindsay. He graduated from Colorado Springs high school in 1956, attended the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1956 to 1960, graduating with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was honored with the Civil Engineer of the Year award in 1960.

Jarry married his true love, Donna Sue Davis in 1958 and they had 57 wonderful years together. They have two sons, Scot and wife Mani and Steve and his wife Karen, and three grandchildren, Megan, Taylor, and Ellie.

Jarry and Donna Sue lived in France for 2 years where he served as an Army Officer in the Corps of Engineers. He returned to Colorado for a career with Mountain Bell. As he climbed the ranks  from 1963 – 1982 his work moved the family to Salt Lake City, El Paso, Boise, and Phoenix where he was the VP of Arizona Operations. With the separation of the corporation Jarry became the VP of Business Services for AT&T out of Phoenix until 1985. He then moved to San Francisco where he was the Vice President of Technical Operations/computer division until 1992.

During this time Jarry was also the Chairman of United Way campaigns, active in many service clubs and church activities, and was a Commissioner of Little League Baseball.

In 1992 Jarry and Donna Sue returned to Denver where he became the Chief Operating Officer of Telecom Pioneers, an 800,000 employee member volunteer organization that makes financial and volunteer contributions to local and national charities.

In his retired years Jarry enjoyed golfing in Colorado and Arizona; spending time with friends and family; and touring the world with his loving wife.

In Jarry’s role as Executive director and Chief Operating Officer of Telephone Pioneers of America in the early 1990s, he was instrumental in creating an endowment to support the volunteer projects benefiting the public at large undertaken by nearly one million retirees and employees of the then Bell Telephone companies.

It is entirely fitting that his unwaveringly supportive partner in that endeavor, Donna Sue, would select AT&T Pioneers for those wishing to contribute a memorial to Jarry.
