Jerry Robert Whalen born on April 4, 1926, in St Joseph, Missouri passed away on February 6, 2018, at his home in Littleton, CO at the age of 91.
Jerry was born to John Raymond Whalen Sr and Icea Bumphrey and attended Christian Brothers high school in St Joseph. He enlisted in the Navy on May 13th, 1943 trained as a Navy gunner and served as a Seaman First Class before receiving an honorable discharge on the 29th of April 1946.
Upon return from the war, Jerry embarked on a career as a professional baseball player playing for six seasons in the minor leagues while earning a degree in business at the University of Missouri in 1950. He then worked for over 25 years for the Rocky Mountain Bank Note Company directing sales activities in the region.
Jerry married Ruth A Whalen of Burlington, IA in Littleton, CO November 16, 1968, at St Mary’s Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the parish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, JoAnn Wood of St Joseph, Jeanne O’Toole of Pocasset MA and brother Jack Whalen of St Joseph, MO. Survivors include son Charles (Susanne), Stockholm, Sweden, brother Jim and 3 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial, Friday February 16th at 10AM at St. Patrick Church, St. Joseph, Missouri; burial, with military honors, to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Missouri.
