Lita Joyce Holsteen passed away January 11th, 2017 surrounded by her family at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colorado.
Lita Joyce Arnett was born on Christmas Eve, 1934 in Amarillo Texas to Margaret and John Witt. She was the second of two children. Lita was preceded in death by her husband Dalton Holsteen, her daughter Adele Nanette, and her second husband Gene Duke. She leaves behind her son Neil, and daughter Alane. She is survived by four grandchildren.
She spent her high school years on a farm in eastern New Mexico where she milked cows, raised chickens and grew broomcorn.
After high school she attended Amarillo Junior College where she majored in music. In 1957 she moved to Chicago to attend Moody Bible Institute where she majored in Christian Education. There she met and fell in love with Dalton Holsteen, a farm boy from Iowa. They married in 1960 and moved to Littleton Colorado where they made their home and raised their children.
In 1999 after Dalton passed away, she began focusing on her piano teaching career and taught students to play using an innovative right brain technique. She loved seeing children blossom in their love of music.
In 2006 she married an old high school friend from New Mexico named Gene Duke. The two enjoyed 10 years of fun, adventures, and companionship until he passed away in August 2016.
She said in her recent Christmas newsletter that when she looked back on her life, a song came to her with the lyrics
Jesus led me all the way.
Led me step by step each day.
I will tell the saints and angels as I lay my burden down
Jesus led me all the way.
