Welcome to the memorial page for

Marko Rukavina, Jr.

November 6, 1928 ~ May 15, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

In Memory of Marko Rukavina Jr.
November 6, 1928 - May 15, 2016

Born in Carson Lake, MN, Marko was one of 5 children born to Manda and Marko Rukavina.

Many knew him by "Porky", a name given to him by his family. As the story goes, days after he was born, his mother placed him down to sleep in a large cooking pot which was positioned on top of the open door of the oven (for warmth).  Upon seeing this his brother exclaimed to the family, "why he's not much bigger than a pork roast", and so the lifelong family nickname was born.

Marko was a hockey player and boxer in his youth.  He joined the Army as a teenager and was stationed overseas during his military service.  As an adult, Marko worked professionally in Denver and Alaska most of his life.  He owned several used car businesses (Porky's Auto Sales), worked on the Alaska pipeline, and ended his career owning Educational Services, a top trade school recruiting firm based in Anchorage, Alaska. After 17 years of ownership, he sold Educational Services and retired in 1998.  During his long career, he had a strong work ethic, he was an exceptional salesperson (a natural in fact) and always provided for his family.

Marko loved watching NFL football (huge Bronco fan), NHL hockey (huge Avalanche fan), and pro boxing. He loved to have family and friends over to his beautiful home to watch sports and eat good food.

Marko is survived by his son Marko Rukavina III.
