Neal Eugene Larson

July 5, 1924 ~ February 6, 2016 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Neal was born in Farnhamville, Iowa where he attended Farnhamville High School and met his wife of over seventy years.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1943 and served until September of 1946 being discharges from active duty as Yeoman 3c.  After WWII war ended, he and his wife, Joyce's asthma caused them to seek a dryer climate and they moved to Denver, Colorado in 1947. Neal's work history included various positions but primarily was that of a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Post Office.  He recently received a pin of recognition for 65 years of membership in the Nation Association of Letter Carriers Union.  He retired in 1980 at which time he realized his goal to build a home in the Bailey, Colorado area where he and Joyce enjoyed mountain living for fifteen years.  As a member of the community he helped organize and was a charter member of Lambert-Wright-Roy VFW Post 8661 and later joined Roy R. Brannaman Post 3971, Denver, CO.  He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He organized and arranged 18 reunions of the USS Sturtevant DE239 renewing old friendships and making many new ones.  Over the years he was a member of Valverde Presbyterian Church and Central Presbyterian Church, both in Denver, always keeping in close touch with his Iowa relatives and friends.  In 1994 he and Joyce moved back to Littleton, Colorado where they were able to enjoy their grandchildren's school years.

Neal passed away on February 6, 2016 leaving behind his wife, Joyce, four grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Mark Larson and Andrew Harrison, his father Richard Harrison, and his great grandchild, Rhiley Larson.  He also leaves behind his sister, Diann Shaner, her husband, Bob from Iowa Falls, Iowa, his brother and sister in law, Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hiler from Memphis, Tennessee, nieces and nephews.  His beloved daughter, Nancy (Gay) Harrison and son Noel Larson preceded his death, in hope he will join them in eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers a contribution to Porter Hospice Residence Foundation, 3525 South Downing St.  Denver, Colorado 80210 or a charity of your choice in Neal's memory will be appreciated.
