Richard Allen Saunders

Richard Allen Saunders was born in Charleston, West Virginia to Arnold S. and M. Frances Saunders.  He joined the Navy after high school and served four years as an Aviation Ordnanceman.  Soon after leaving the Navy, he married Shirley Withrow and moved to Detroit to work as a Ramp Serviceman for United Airlines.  He transferred to Denver in 1968 and retired as an Air Freight Agent after 33 years.  He was a member of the Englewood Elks Club and the Longshot.  He and Shirley were married for 52 years and had three children.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Bruce, David (Shelley), and Randy (Christine), grandchildren Alissa (Michael), Chad, Kyle (Amber), Derek, Kiersten, Austin, Kaitlyn, and Brandon,  great grandchildren, Michael, and Winifred, brother Walter (Karen) of Kerrville, TX, and sisters Leona Birchfield of Craigsville WV, and Rebecca (Ted) Carter of Charleston, WV.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 followed by a Funeral Service at 2 PM, both at Drinkwine Family Mortuary. A military committal service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2106 at 12:30 PM at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Staging area "B".
