Ruth Harris, longtime resident of Wichita, KS, passed into eternal sleep on Tuesday, October 11, 2017, at the Avantara Care Facility in Parker, CO.
She was born September 29, 1919, in Cullison, KS, the fifth of six children, to Joseph O. and Mary E. Baker. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Cullison High School in 1938. She relocated to Wichita in the early 1940s and began working for Dillons Food Stores. During World War II she worked for Boeing Aircraft assembling B29s for the war effort. After the war she went to work for Beech Aircraft as an assembler.
She married Wayne L. Harris on February 16, 1948, and they settled into the Orchard Breeze subdivision in West Wichita. After the arrival of their son, Larry, in 1952, Ruth became a full time homemaker. After Wayne’s passing in 1965, she rejoined the work force and ultimately went to work for Cessna Aircraft and remained there until her retirement in 1984. In retirement she loved to read and did so daily until shortly before her passing.
In 2000 she relocated to Aurora, CO, to be near her family. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter Elizabeth Harris. She is survived by a brother, Earl Baker of Wichita, son Larry, Grandchildren Melinda Davis, Joseph Harris, Johnny Harris, James Harris, Jarrod Harris and Heather
