Shirley B. White 1927 - 2018
Shirley was a true Colorado native having been born in Englewood, CO on March 8, 1927 as Shirley Elizabeth Burtt.
She grew up in Englewood and graduated from Englewood High School in 1944. During her High School World War II time she enjoyed many times dancing at the USO with our service men.
Her first year of college was at the Oklahoma college for women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She graduated in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree from CU in Music and was joined by her husband Sidney J. White, who also graduated with Bachelor of Business Degree . They were married while at CU on December 21, 1947 having met in 1946 when Sidney had returned home from his World War II Army service. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary just before her demise.
Shirley was an accomplished mezzo soprano and sang many years with the Mario Singer's at Mario Restaurant's in Denver. She was a member first all Colorado Chorus to sing with the Central City Opera in 1947. She was a winner of an annual metropolitan Opera regional contest. She was a soloist with the Brico Symphony, the Denver Symphony and the Greeley Philharmonic. She taught voice privately for over 50 years and finally retired on her birthday in 2017.
She is survived by her husband, Sidney J, White, son Roger White of Phoenix, AZ, son Philip R. White (Denise) of Greeley, CO and daughter Julie W. Reuther (Michael) of Littleton, CO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Drinkwine Family Chapel. Full obituary information will be posted soon.
