Vernice M. Parr

Vernice Marline Parr was born March 24, 1927 in Denver, Colorado, but she grew up on a farm south of Bennett. She enjoyed her childhood in the loving family of Ben and Vera Ward Messerly, with three sisters; Betty Bryant, Bernice Young and Rosalyn Demoney and one brother Wayne Parr.  She had to put up with a brother who loved to tease everyone.  One time he shot her with a BB gun in the “backside” and he always had a turkey he would train to attack the girls. This made him laugh when they would have to run to the outside “shanty”.  Everyone enjoyed the jokes growing up…maybe not the “receiver”, but the one that thought it up!   It made for excitement on the farm.

Marline accepted the Lord and was baptized at First Baptist Church in 1944.  She attended and graduated from Baptist Bible College in 1952. She worked at  Children’s Hospital for a few years and studied at Emily Griffith to get her GED so she could enter nursing training at Rose Hospital. She graduated from nursing school in 1956 as a LPN.  After she worked at Rose for four years,  she worked at various nursing homes, at Park View Nursing Center for over 20 years.  She retired at age 65.

Marline’s favorite job was working at Children’s hospital, as she loved kids.  She was always available to baby sit her nephews.  She worked in the church nursery for a number of years until she was physically unable. 

After retiring, she enjoyed being able to go to church every Sunday and prayer meetings on Wednesday.  She found great happiness with Betty’s help.   She leaves behind one sister, two nephews, two nieces and many church friends. 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1PM at First Baptist Church of Englewood. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bennett, CO.
