Walter John Bushnell

May 21, 1933 ~ May 18, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Walter J. Bushnell, M.D. (Born May 21, 1933, died May 18, 2017, age 83)

Dr. Walter Bushnell of Centennial, Co. passed away with family by his side on Thursday evening, at Swedish Hospital in Denver, 3 days short of his 84th birthday.

He is survived by his three children, David (Kristina) Bushnell, Barbara (Timothy) Pleune, Diane Blackburn; and seven grandchildren, Joseph Bushnell, Brigitte Bushnell, Matthew Miller, Christopher Miller, Anna Miller, Nicholas Nolan and Augustus Ruppert; and brother Paul E. (Dorothy) Bushnell.

Walt was born in Wooster, Ohio, to Mildred and Paul P. Bushnell on May 21, 1933.  In his early years he enjoyed athletics, and played intramural football in college.  He also enjoyed acting, and was active in college theater, playing in several Shakespearian plays, including Macbeth and Mid-Summer Nights Dream.  He later earned a BA in Biology from the College of Wooster, briefly attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and attended medical school at the University of Michigan, where he earned his M.D.

Walt and wife Margaret Ann Bushnell moved to Denver in 1965, where he eventually started his medical practice.  He was a doctor of internal medicine, specializing in arthritis and rheumatic disease.

Walt enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, holding the rank of Captain.  He served at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver.

Walt enjoyed gardening, and in his later years, volunteered at the Denver Botanical Gardens.

He was also an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.  He appreciated the beauty of nature, and the pursuit of wild game.  He hunted many game animals over the years.  He will be remembered in part by his generosity in sharing this passion with his children and grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Monday, 5/22/17, 1:00 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church, 9729 US Highway 85, Highlands Ranch, CO 80125.  Reception to follow.
