Dennis Blake Obituary

Dennis was born in Torrance, California and was the oldest child of Charles Alton Blake and Bernice Mary Weber Blake.  He had two brothers, Ronald and Norman (deceased). Dennis grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. He was confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church on May 28, 1950, Pastor Paul A. Laurell, officiant.  Dennis graduated Central High School, Pueblo, Colorado (1954). He attended Pueblo Jr. College and graduated from Bethany Lutheran College, Lindsborg, Kansas (1959). He then taught school and coached basketball for three years in Salina, Kansas.

Dennis married Roseann Engstrom on August 23, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Salina, Kansas and enjoyed 53 years of a loving relationship with Roseann and their three children: Katrina (John, deceased), Mark (Becky) and Paul (Jeanne).  He is also survived by grandchildren: Briana, Cassidy, Kailey, Laura (Max) and Rob (Karissa) and great-grandchildren Kaden and Brooklyn.

He was employed, for many years by, IBM, PERA, and Colorado State Courts Administrators Office as a Systems Analyst. He retired at the age of 59.

Dennis enjoyed lifelong hobbies including woodworking and restoring vintage Fords.  He was a member of Model A Restorers Club and Early Ford V8 Club for more than 40 years and held various offices in these clubs, including the presidency.

Dennis married Carla Emch on September 13, 2014, at the historic Evans Memorial Chapel at the University of Denver and added Kevin Emch (Tara) and Melinda Emch to his family.  He considered Morgan and Brooke Phillips and Jack Emch as his grandchildren.

Similar to the movie “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” Dennis and Carla liked to say they experienced “Three Funerals and a Wedding”, as they were reacquainted when attending funerals.  They were drawn together by similar interests and religious beliefs and were so happy to get to know each other and share married life together.

Dennis will be remembered for his bright blue eyes, his smile and laughter, his devotion to God and his family, his skills in car restoration, his generosity to others whether it be yard work, cabinetry or garage work.  In sum, Dennis was a true gentleman.

Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 26, 2018 at Bethany Lutheran Church.
