I did not know Fred personally.  I am a virtual acquaintance who shared a common interest with Fred in programming computers.  While I did not know Fred very well, I did notice his absense in the programming forums where we talked shop.  He will be missed and I wished to express my condolences to his friends and family.  Fred was very patient and generous with me in sharing his programming efforts.  I can only imagine that was a reflection of his greater personality.

I didn't have the privilege of knowing Fred Meier personally,
but I've been very thankful for his work for many years.

This dreadful news comes as real shock.
A very sad day indeed, he will be missed.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I am very sad to hear that Fred passed away. Many in the field of computer programming will miss him, his experience, his great support, his friendly way of helping out. I had contact with Fred by email and once in a while we chatted on the telephone. I still remember the first time when I called him. Since I live in Germany he told me: "You are lucky, I almost did not pick up the phone. That number looked odd." Glad he did pick it up, it resulted in a one hour conversation. I will miss our little chats.

My condolences go to his wife and children.

Lynda, Brian, and Nathan,

I will always remember Fred's kindness to my parents, his Uncle Bert and Aunt Florence.  He never passed through Western Kansas without stopping to visit them over all those years. They always loved your visits.  Mom and Dad  loved "Freddie" like a son- in many ways he was.  Dad enjoyed his wit and ability to argue with him and mom enjoyed them both for the men they were when they laughed and spent time together.

Fred was a good man with a big heart and a kind mannerism.  I'm so sorry for  your loss of this kind man.  Our deepest sympathy.

I would like to express my thoughts and condolences to the Meier family.

I worked with Fred the last few years at Denver Children's Home. We spent many hours discussing his work and life and I will always value the knowledge and perspective he shared. The time and effort Fred put in cannot be measured and he helped DCH continue on its mission.

I consider it a privilege that I knew him and I will be forever grateful that I had the opportunity to work with him. He will be thoroughly missed.

I am one of many who appreciate the wit and humor that Fred expressed while playing tennis on Tuesday mornings. I have this image of him smiling from ear-to-ear when he smashed a forehand past me, leaving me shaking my head. What a great guy!
He and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. I am sad to say I can not attend the memorial service as I am out of town.

Lynda -
Rick and I are very sad for you and your family.  I don't ever remember not seeing a smile on Fred's face.  We looked forward to seeing him tooling around in the golf cart at Hudson Garden's concerts.  He even gave us a ride after Rick's knee surgery one year.  Please know that you are in our thoughts.

Dear Lynda and Family,
We offer you our deepest sympathies at this time of loss from your husband and father.  Rick would often remark how much he was influenced by Fred's technical excellence and display of integrity of personal character.  Fred definitely was no small factor in making everyone around him better.  We shall miss him very much as we hold to the hope of seeing him once again at the Savior's side.

I met Fred at a Cullinet User Group meeting, which ended at a breakfast at the Breakfast King. He got me hired at Gates when my resume would not get me an interview. We worked together more than 15 years. During that time we got to do some traveling together. On one trip to a user group meeting in Huntington Beach, I had to prove the hard way that the airlines ALWAYS loses my luggage ( we almost missed the bus from the airport to the hotel while we waited in the lost luggage line ). On another I got to show him around my old haunts in Chicago (Uno's Pizzeria, The Berghoff and the Billy Goat Tavern, which he liked A Lot).
Fred was the best boss that I ever had ( Yes, that includes you too Bill ).
I will always remember Fred for his intelligence and humor and great patience.
