James “Jim” Lee Berggren Jr.
Jim, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on August 20, 2018, as he wished. October 12, 2018 would have been his 90th birthday.
Jim was born in Denver, CO to James L. Berggren and Mabel B. Lewellyn who preceded him in death. James L. Berggren Sr. later married Pearl Wardlow. Jim felt a strong devotion to Mabel and Pearl whom he loved and adored.
Jim was very proud of his Colorado heritage and treasured his time at Jack Creek Ranch in Rand, CO. Jim’s interests were many, varied and could fill a book. He’d try, or attend, anything once for the experience. He was meticulous with his home and gardening and often said, ‘there is no place like home.”
Jim served in the Air Force and studied Finance & Real Estate Planning at University of Colorado. Jim worked in the real estate industry for Van Schaack & Company and enjoyed the fruits of his success and investments with an early retirement at 48.
Jim was preceded in death by his devoted life partner of 49 years Donald A. Bennett. Jim is survived by the extended Bennett Family, Berggren Cousins and many friends. Jim knew how to tell a story and never met a stranger. His zest for life was contagious and his laugh and smile drew people to him. Jim loved a parade wherever he went and often responded with “that’s neat” to encourage a conversation further. Jim was an endearing character that will be missed.
Services to celebrate Jim’s life will be held October 12th at 2PM in St. Martin's Chapel at St. John's Cathedral, 1350 N. Washington St., Denver CO with a reception to follow in Dagwell Hall until 5PM. After the reception, everyone is encouraged to meet at the Brown Palace to continue the celebration of Jim's amazing, inspiring and well lived life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Denver Art Museum, Project Angel Heart or Saint John's Cathedral in Jim's honor.
