James R. Trammell Jr.

July 3, 1936 ~ September 9, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

James R. Trammell Jr (Jim), age 81 of Littleton, passed away on the morning of September 9th, 2017. The first of three children, Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio to James and Marcella Trammell on July 3, 1936.  His brothers were Wayne (deceased) and Alan. Jim was married to Victorine M. (Perkins) Trammell (deceased) for over 50 years and raised three sons in Littleton: James P. Trammell, Scott A. Trammell and David E. Trammell (deceased).

Jim served two years in the U.S Army from 1954-56. After being honorably discharged, he pursued studies at Baldwin Wallace and received his Bachelor of Science.  At BW he was a college wrestler and most importantly met the love of his life, his wife Vickey. He received his Master’s Degree at Ohio University and worked on a Ph.D. at Colorado University in Botany finishing all but his dissertation.  Later in life he also received a second Master’s Degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught at Arapahoe Community College from 1965 to 1997 as one of the founding faculty members establishing a successful biology department and serving as department chair for most of his tenure.

Jim was dedicated to his family spending time hiking and camping. He volunteered his time in sports, coaching wrestling at the YMCA and soccer in the Littleton community. He was an avid photographer focusing on Colorado native plants and was a member of the Denver Botanic Gardens.  Jim was committed to excellence in all he did and set a high standard for his sons to follow.  He will be greatly missed.

Services will be held on September 21st at 2 pm at Drinkwine Family Mortuary. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the nonprofit “Friends of Roxborough” (4751 East Roxborough Dr, Roxborough CO 80125)
