Joseph Arthur Bly, 72, of Lakewood, CO died Friday, November 22, 2019, at Bethany Rehabilitation Center. Joe was born in Arkansas City, KS, on September 5, 1947, to Joseph Arthur and Helen Wilmot Bly. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1965 and from the University of Kansas in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. He was honored with membership in the Kansas Alpha Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, honorary fraternity in mathematics. Joe went on to study computer science at NYU and Computer Systems and Computer Architectures at Stevens Institute of Technology. Joe worked as a computer programmer at AT&T Bell Labs in New Jersey and at Pacific Bell Telephone Co in California. In 2009, he moved to Colorado and since 2016 has been living in the Bethany Rehabilitation Center. Joe was a gentle soul with a kind and warm heart. He was an ace programmer but also had a strong interest in photography and movies--old as well as new! Joe is survived by his cousins, Sara Bly of North Plains, OR, and Nell Bly of Littleton, CO, and by his partner, Michael Pirrocco of New York City, NY. A graveside service is planned to be held in Arkansas City, KS, in 2020.
