M. Edward Burns jr. passed away July 23, 2017 following a long illness of cancer. He was born September 8, 1945 in Elmhurst, IL to Maurice and Analee Burns.  In addition to Illinois, he lived in Nebraska and Kansas prior to moving to Aurora, Colorado.  He graduated from Aurora High School in 1963, followed by the University of Colorado with a BS in Accounting in 1967 and a Juris Doctorate in 1972.  Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He then returned to Colorado to finish his law degree.

After 27 years in private practice, in 1999 he was chosen to be a Magistrate for the Colorado Judicial Branch serving in the 18th Judicial District.  While on the Bench, he served on many professional committees including the Littleton Rotary Club.  He also taught as an adjunct professor in the para-professional program at Aurora Community College.

Ed’s thirst for knowledge was a lifelong quest, which he gladly shared with anyone around him.  In addition to his outstanding understanding of the law and legal statutes, he was exceptionally kind and caring to those who came before him in the Courtroom.

Ed is survived by his wife, O’Tasha Rivers, his daughter Megan Burns Pratt, her husband John and their two grandchildren, Addie & Drew, in Superior, Colorado.  He is also survived by his step-daughter, Kelly Glascock, her husband Miles and their sons, Andre and Spencer, of Coral Gables, Florida.

A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held on July 31, 2017 at noon at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church at 1401 E Dry Creek Rd, Littleton, CO 80122.  Donations may be made in honor of Ed to Safehouse Denver by mail 1649 Downing St. or through their website https://safehouse-denver.org/how-to-help/tribute-or-memorial-gifts.html.
