Major Elgin “Rick” Ross, United States Air Force, 47, passed away Saturday June 17, 2017 while on active duty as Division Chief, Total Force Service Center-Denver and Operations, Aurora, Colorado. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 17, 1970 to loving parents Edward Ross (deceased) and Deborah (Ross) Warren.

Rick received his education from Sandalwood High School and continued on to Bethune Cookman College. In 1999, he received a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree, in Human Resource Administrations from St. Leo College, St. Leo, Florida. In 2004, he earned a Masters of Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Touro University, Cypress, California. Which further led to the completion of a Masters of Military Operational Art and Sciences, Air University, Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 2014.

Rick joined the United States Air Force in 1992, and after completing basic training he was assigned to Eglin AFB, Florida.  After serving 10 years as an enlisted service member he earned his commission through Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, Alabama in 2002. During his 24 years of honorable military service in the Air Force, Rick served in a variety of support positions to include billets at the Major Command, Wing and Squadron levels. His assignments have taken him all over the world. He was able to see Nevada, Hawaii, Virginia, Washington D.C., Colorado, London, Switzerland, Japan, and the great state of Florida. Rick has received numerous awards and decorations, including a Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Rick leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 21 years, Monique; Children: Jasmine (20), Sierra (14), and Zarah (3); Grandmothers: Cathryn Salter, Ernestine Larosa; Stepfather: Charles Warren; Siblings: Roshann Ross, Antonio Bailey (Shauna), Antoinette Bailey; Godchildren: Jaleah King, Deidre Brown, Anthony Holsey III and Tori Larosa; Special nephew/son: Trevonta Taylor (deceased); In Laws: Vincent (Jaynell),Richard (Bo) Rutha, Salonika, Marie, Irie, Arva, Christine and Val (Anthony); Uncles: Lamar (Leslie), Eugene (Zaneta), Tony (Alice), Greg (Karen), Walter, Douglas and Rudy (Keya); Very close cousins: Roland Bell, Tony Ross (Tyeisha) and Stacy Rahim (Timmeka); Godmother: Deloris Mears; Very special friends Robert Preston, John Pough (Lisa) and Erick Nettles (Devakki); Close military friends: Sandy Pugh, Earl Peoples, Gerald Kemp, Courtney Anderson, Cornell Cornelius, Oscar Venezee and Ed Aycock. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many other sorrowful relatives in Florida, California, New Orleans and Georgia.
