Marie Giveans of Centennial, passed away at the age of 77 on December 27, 2019. She was the beloved wife of Fred Giveans and they were married 59 years. Marie was the mother of Julie, Colleen, and Jim, and the grandmother to 15 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was born in Warwick, NY on August 26, 1942 to Gary and Julia Cooper, and she was the sister of Richard, Virginia, and Leona.
She began her career as a phone operator in New York until she married and moved to Mississippi and North Carolina with Fred while he was in the US Air Force. In 1967 they moved to Colorado where they raised their children. She became the Manager of the Peabody Elementary School cafeteria and also began earning her bachelor’s degree from Metro State College in Education. Upon graduation she taught second grade in the Denver Public Schools for nearly 20 years and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education.
Marie loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and lived a life that reflected Jesus’ love to everyone in her life. She was always encouraging those around her and finding the positive in every situation, believing that God’s plan was perfect. She gave to everyone in need whether it was family, friends, neighbors, or strangers. She loved gardening, being outside, volunteering at church, and spending time and helping with all of her family.
Marie will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 1. at Drinkwine Family Mortuary. Burial will be at Ft. Logan, Thursday, January 2, at 11:15 a.m., staging area "C".
