January 22, 1981 ~ October 24, 2012 (age 31) 31 Years Old

Misty Lynn Miller
January 22, 1981 - October 24, 2012

Misty was very much a wanted and awaited for child. There had not been a birth in the family for nine years. Robin didn't think she was going to have any children, and as the date neared for Misty's arrival, the entire family anxiously awaited. She was absolutely perfect. She had big rosy cheeks, and was beautiful. Bill was and still is the proudest father alive, and Misty thought the world of him. Misty was always above average in intelligence and very social. She loved to play with her ice cream shop, and her Woodsey family and she slept every night with her stuffed lion named Lionel. When she got excited she used to rub her feet together vigorously. The holiday and family gatherings were wonderful, as all of the cousins (Rhonda, Darren, Deanna, and Tami) had a new playmate! This made for another great playmate! Misty loved going to the park and feeding the ducks. Maybe that is where her love of animals began. Misty got her first pet when she was 18 months old; a Shitzu named Vegas.

As it became time to start school, Misty attended Coronado elementary school. She was an outstanding student, and very much loved by her teachers. Misty was a great speller and an extremely creative and artsy girl. Misty had the opportunity to try many different things, and most things came easy to her and she excelled. She did gymnastics, horseback riding, singing lessons, cheerleading, tennis, guitar and tai kwando. Misty was hard on herself and accepted nothing short of perfection. Her friend's loved to be in her class, because, her dad would sometimes come to eat lunch with her, or bring pizza or ice cream for the whole class. He even took the entire class on some field trips. When she was about 7 years old, she was the flower girl in her cousin Rhonda's wedding. Granny made a beautiful dress for her, and she sang Blue Suede Shoes, and You are my Hero at the reception. It was during these years, that everyone realized what a truly compassionate, empathetic, caring person Misty was. She would go out of her way to befriend the disabled kid or the kid that was being bullied. All animals (spiders included), were special to Misty. She nursed and cared for many sick animals. It was like she was an animal whisperer. This characteristic stayed with her for her entire life.

Misty then attended middle school at Deer Creek. She continued to excel in school, and in the eighth grade, she was one of two recipients in Colorado to receive the Junior Achievement Award. She also continued to be very creative. Everyone could always expect to get homemade crafts and cards from Misty.
Misty went on to attend Chatfield High School, and graduated from Highlands Ranch High School. She held various jobs all working with the public. Everywhere Misty went, she made friends, and everyone knew how lively, funny, and vivacious she was by the time she left. She was one heck of a wheeler dealer, and was always sure to ask for her "mall discount".

We almost lost Misty one other time. She was brave and tried to stay strong through her constant pain. This time again, she remained strong, and was still trying to take care of others all while she was in agonizing pain. She stayed strong, until she couldn't any longer. Misty lost her battle to Melanoma Cancer in Lone Tree, Colorado on October 24, 2012.

Misty is survived by her Father and Mother, Bill and Robin Miller; Friend, Gus; Grandmother, Bettye Rathbun; Aunt, Dee Rathbun;  Uncles, Tim Rathbun,  Brad, Brent and Scott Miller; numerous cousins, extended family members and many friends.
