We first met Nancy at Christmas 2012, little realizing that she would be in our lives for only four short years. Our first meeting was a joy! We looked forward to her being family. The next three years were filled with good times, especially Doug and Carrieā€™s wedding and the arrival of Daisy, our grand-dog. We spent our second and third Christmas with Nancy in Denver. They were White Christmases, literally and figuratively. We were fond of the quiet moments, the talks with Nancy. Then, unfortunately, she had her accident. We saw her once more and expected a full recovery, given her determination and optimism. Sadly, it was not to be. We miss her.

Being mindful that today is Nancy's birthday, I am writing to give thanks for her life and for her influence on mine. We became acquainted in the late 1960s while she and Ed were both teachers at Walt Whitman Elementary School. Our lives began to be intertwined. Over the years we both: taught school in LPS; liked eating out together; visited each other's houses; shared art, craft, and decorating ideas; enjoyed a long tradition of Mothers' Day brunches; shared favorite recipes; had the same political views; passed life milestones (births, deaths, children, retirement); became snowbirds in Florida. Our most recent tradition was lunching together on a day midway between our two birthdays. Nancy was a kind, sharing, thoughtful friend. I will miss our birthday lunches but way more, I will miss Nancy.
