Petra Avila De La Torre, age 89, passed away peacefully Friday, September 27th. She was born January 31, 1930 in Denver to Catarino and Guadalupe, and became the matriarch of over two dozen siblings. Her unconditional love for her family drove her to work hard and become a successful entrepreneur in the early 60s shaping the way of Mexican cuisine in Denver by opening La Popular and later El Charrito. She often lived her life with the belief that "you need to shake the lead from your pants." Pat loved to garden, enjoying the many rose bushes, peonies and irises that lined her home. Pat is survived by her four children and their spouses: Daniel and Michelle De La Torre, Raul and Mary De La Torre, Yolanda Valencia and Octavio Ordoñez, and Esmeralda and Matt Orrin; as well as her many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held at Drinkwine Mortuary on Wednesday, October 2nd from 5-7 pm, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Please join us celebrating her life Thursday morning October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. and a reception to follow until 3:00 pm at Seven Stones Chatfield 9635 N Rampart Range Rd, Littleton.
