Stephen Andrew Obituary

Stephen Robert Andrew was born June 3, 1939 in Rawlins, WY to Elmer Glen and Anna Aufdenbrink Andrew.  Steve passed away on February 22, 2018 in Denver, CO.

He graduated from Hayden Union High School in 1957 where he wrestled and played football. He later attended the University of Wyoming.

On June 18, 1960 he married Sharon Lou St. Louis at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dixon, Wyoming; a marriage of nearly 58 years.  He is predeceased by his brother Sanford “Sam“, his parents and many family members. He is survived by his wife, three daughters Kirsten (Santos Nava), Carrie (Marshall Cook) and Julia Elliott, grandchildren Logan and Tanner Arambel, Mark and Maya Nava and step-grandson Ryan Cook. He is also survived by his sisters in law Nanci Andrew and Joyce Miranda, nephews Mike and Sandy Andrew, Russell Miranda and nieces Allison Andrew and Marti Miranda Snyder and their children.

He was a rancher and stockman and a life-long learner.  He constantly worked to improve the genetics of his cow herd as well as his sheep and loved breaking and training good horses.  He bought his ranch at Maybell from Dean Myers in 1966 along with his range land in the Great Divide area. His daughter Kirsten and family still manages his ranch and livestock.

Steve was active in his industry belonging to Colorado and Moffat County Cattlemen’s Association as well as state and local Farm Bureau Associations.   He served on the Moffat County Land Use Board, the County Planning Board and was active in Sage Grouse Preservation.  He also served on the local Habitat Preservation Program (HPP), and was a committee member for the local Farmer’s Home Administration as well as the ASCS.

Steve served his community as a member of the Maybell Fire Dept and the Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Craig Masonic Lodge, the Craig Rotary Club and the Republican Party.  Steve served on the Moffat County School Board for eight years. He also served as a board member for Horizons Specialized Services. He was active in both the Maybell Congregational Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal and Lutheran Church of Grace Church in Craig and later Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran in Grand Junction.

Memorial services were held for Steve in Grand Junction on March 3, 2018.  Graveside services will be held at Reader Cemetery, Savery, WY on May 26, 2018.
