William Leonard Skufca (Bill)
September 15th, 1930 – April 24th, 2018.
Bill was survived by his wife, Beverle, and their four children and (their spouses): Greg, Tim (Marta), Valere (Earnest), Mark (Jennifer), Hilary (daughter in-law), Kim (daughter in-law), seven grandchildren and (their spouses): Eric (Brittany), Dalton, Collin, Cole, Emerson, Madeleine and Tom, and 1.5 great grandchildren: Taten, and one great grandchild on the way.
Bill grew up in Canon City, Colorado, and was the only son of his parents, Louis and Anna Skufca. At the age of 12 he was hospitalized for two months because he was battling polio. In his honor, he received a letter from President FDR because he tried a new procedure to fight polio and it was successful.
Bill attended Denver University and wanted to get a degree in radio. He had second thoughts after seeing his competition, so Bill changed his major to architecture.
After college he and Beverle got married and together they traveled the country selling windows door to door. They realized that all the traveling was not suitable to start a family, so they settled down in Denver, CO.
In 1960 Bill and a fellow DU graduate, Jim Shelton, opened a residential construction company. They built 100s of homes in the Denver metro area. Bill and Jim were well known for their high standards in their homes. In the early 80s the poor economy hit Skufca and Shelton hard, therefore in 1986 Bill started a mortgage company, called Alliance Guaranty Mortgage, Corp. Today, after 32 years, it is still open for business.
