Anthony (“Tony”) Joseph Giambrone passed away, peacefully, on the morning of May 1, 2024, at home, in Highlands Ranch, CO. First and foremost, Tony was devoted to his family. He was a wonderful husband and an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather, whose heartfelt loyalty and commitment to his family were steadfast and whose love for his family was boundless. Integrity, strength, and honor were the ideals and virtues he lived by and demonstrated to others every day of his life. He was the kindest and best of men.
Tony was born on April 29, 1947, in Kansas City, MO. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Colleen Meyers Rea, and his adoring children, Jason Christopher Giambrone (wife Jennifer), Candy Wilks Brandon (husband Leif), and Rebecah Wilks Schwartz, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Jordyn Giambrone, Taylor Giambrone, Skylar Schwartz, Noah Brandon, Seth Brandon, Jeff Brandon, Sean Brandon and Zach Brandon, and his adorable great grandchildren, Haylee, Logan and Ian Brandon.
Tony served in the US Air Force and, following his honorable discharge in October 1966, began a career in the private sector with Braniff Airlines. After Braniff Airlines closed, Tony began a new career as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked for over twenty years, until his retirement in October 2005. Tony truly enjoyed air traffic control and was promoted to Supervisor and then Facility Manager at the flight service station located in Centennial, CO.
Tony was an excellent tennis player, hiker and fly fisherman. He loved to hike nature trails in Colorado, and elsewhere, and loved to climb Colorado’s many “fourteeners.” He enjoyed catch-and-release flyfishing and had a great time imparting his knowledge of flyfishing to his grandchildren. He also was an avid wildlife photographer, who especially enjoyed photographing all types of wild birds, from eagles, hawks, and owls to songbirds and hummingbirds. One of his beautiful photographs of an owl received an award and was published in a calendar. Tony also photographed family events and outings, but because he was almost always behind the camera lens, taking pictures, most family photos do not include pictures of Tony. Tony enjoyed teaching others, including his granddaughter, Skylar, about photography.
Tony fought hard and long battles against a variety of serious health problems. Throughout it all, he did his very best to maintain a positive outlook and held an unwavering resolve to carry on for his wife and family. His smile and the sparkle in his eyes were contagious. His humor and wit always evoked laughter from both friends and family. Most importantly, his loyalty and devotion to his family and his many longtime friends were readily apparent to all who knew him. Tony set an unmatched example of what it means to be a truly good and wonderful person. He is utterly irreplaceable. He will be missed more than words could possibly begin to express. He will live in our hearts forever and will never be forgotten.
Tony’s funeral will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 10:30 am, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 9905 Foothills Canyon Blvd., Highlands Ranch, CO 80129. Mass will be followed by a luncheon reception in the parish hall. A rosary vigil will be held in the church immediately before the Mass, beginning at 10:00 am.
