On Friday, October 16, 2020, Arlene Kunz passed away at the age of 76.
Arlene was born on February 7, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Katherine (Heidinger) May. She married Richard Kunz on April 4, 1964 in Chicago. They moved to Littleton, CO in 1972 where they raised three children, Jill, Colette and Michael. Arlene turned her love of art into a career, painting landscapes and still life in pastel and oil. Through her use of color, light and shadow, she used her art to inspire a sense of serenity and peace. Her father, her mother, and her brother Arthur preceded Arlene in death. She is survived by her husband, three children, five grandchildren, Allison, Katie, Jason, Natalie, and Henry and her sister Arlette Szegfu.
In lieu of flowers, to honor her passion for art and her generous spirit, memorial contributions may be directed to the Art Student League of Denver (https://asld.org/about/ways-to-give/) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org).
Mom,
You dedicated your life to capturing and creating beauty in the world around you. In art, you found colors the majority of us did not see until you painted them. Every piece of your art that hangs on a wall is a portal to a wondrous place and a reminder to look deeply into the world around us. In your mind, you sought knowledge, never ceasing to learn. You shared your passion through teaching us to draw, discussing books, taking us to the theatre, museums and the mountains. From this we are better people, individuals, finding our passions rooted somewhere in the things you loved. In your heart, you made unending space for us all; married to dad for fifty-six years, raising three strong willed and independent kids, and celebrating five grandkids whose pictures are prominently displayed by the dozens on the walls of your house. Thank you, mom, for making our lives so beautiful, our world beautiful, and showing us how to do the same. We love you and will miss you every day.
- Jill, Colette and Michael
