Audrey Pfohl Obituary

Audrey (Camann) Pfohl, 74, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, with all five of her children by her side, knowing that she was loved.

Born January 15, 1950, in Niagara Falls, NY, Audrey was the fifth of eight children and fully occupied her role as a middle child. Growing up, she cherished time at her grandparents’ home just down the road. Grandma Emma and Grandpa Albert were always ready with love, attention, and baked treats, making their house a happy second home for Audrey.

A bright and curious student, Audrey excelled in academics and, in 1967, won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ecuador, where she studied Spanish and lived with a local family.  That adventure left an indelible mark, inspiring her enduring passion for visiting and volunteering in Central America, a place she held close to her heart throughout her life.

In 1972, Audrey graduated from Alfred University and began her career as a teacher, a profession she embraced with pride and dedication.  Later that year, she married, and not long after, she traded Niagara Falls for Colorado, beginning a life full of adventure, hard work, and family.

Audrey welcomed her first child in 1976, kicking off a whirlwind of moves—to Fresno, CA; Albuquerque, NM; and eventually Littleton, CO. Along the way, her family grew to include five kids: Carly, Ben, Bethany, Sam, and Jon. Those years were a blur of team sports, sewing costumes, and family road trips.

In 1996, Audrey charted a new course for herself.  She separated from her husband, moved to Highlands Ranch, and returned to the classroom, focusing on ESL and reading programs.  She especially loved working with disadvantaged youth in Denver Public Schools, finding deep meaning and purpose in helping kids overcome barriers and achieve their potential.

Audrey retired in 2019 and moved to Vita in Littleton.  Here, she made it her mission to join events, learn mahjong, and enjoy regular outings with her dear friend Margie.

A talented seamstress, avid gardener, lover of long walks, and voracious reader, Audrey was also known for her quick wit and resilient spirit. Her colorful and contagious sense of humor left her kids and ten awesome grandkids with a serious appreciation for belly laughs and silliness. While her green thumb didn’t quite pass on to all, her love of learning and kindness are gifts each of us carries forward.  Fiercely independent and beautifully creative, Audrey lived with courage and strength to the very end.

This November, we were fortunate to surround Audrey with love, her favorite music, and all the little things that brought her joy as she passed. She was, and will always be, deeply loved and cherished.

Audrey is survived by ten grandchildren, three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, a large extended family, and the many friends she made along the way.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Audrey, thank you for a life so well-lived. We’ll miss you terribly. May you walk in beauty.
