Betty Bingham Obituary

Betty Bingham passed away at the age of 91, leaving behind a life rich in love, service, and quiet strength. She lived a full and meaningful life and touched countless people through her dedication to family, education, and community. Her memorial service will be January 29th at 2 pm in the Littleton United Methodist Church at 5894 S. Datura St. Littleton, CO.

Betty was born in 1934 in Boulder, Colorado, and grew up in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. After graduating high school, she attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins. As a freshman at CSU, she met Paul Bingham during College Days—she was part of a group of six girls and he was a part of a group of six boys. What began as a lighthearted college connection grew into a lifelong partnership. Betty and Paul were married several years later and graduated from CSU. They welcomed their first child, Jim, in 1956.

Following college, the family moved to Southern California, where Paul worked for a rocket engine company. During this time, Paul was called into active duty with the U.S. Army, and they spent two years in Maryland. After returning to civilian life, Paul was again called into service during the Berlin Crisis. When that period ended, Betty and Paul returned to Colorado in 1962, where they made their permanent home. Their daughter Ann was born in 1963.

In Littleton, Betty and Paul became active members of Littleton United Methodist Church. Betty was deeply involved with the United Methodist Women, while Paul served with Boy Scout Troop 314. Their faith and commitment to service were central to their lives.

Betty began her career as an educator in the Littleton School District, where she taught until her retirement in 1993. She was widely respected as a dedicated and compassionate teacher and received several honors, including “Teacher of the Year” from a local radio station. After retiring, Betty continued to serve her community by volunteering for many years as a receptionist and librarian at their church, Littleton United Methodist Church.

Betty had an extraordinary impact on those around her. Fellow educator and dear friend Linda Erickson shared that Betty was a strong, positive influence beginning in 1971, when Betty volunteered in her classroom at Damon Runyon Elementary School.  Betty later got her teaching certificate and worked at several schools in Littleton. Linda and Betty worked together again on a first-grade team at Sandburg Elementary School beginning in 1989. In 1990, Betty was nominated for, and won, The Colorado Teachers Award. Betty was known for her commitment to research-based teaching strategies, hands-on learning, and her ability to honor the unique qualities of every student.

Betty and Paul were thrilled to welcome their first grandchild, Alexander in 1991, born to their son Jim and his wife Linda. Alex’s sister was born in 1997. Their daughter Ann and her husband Andrew brought four more grandchildren into the world, their daughter Shannon was born in 1995, followed by Daniel born in 1999, Josiah born in 2000 and Samuel born in 2002. Betty adored spending time with her grandchildren, and their lives are all richer for having had such an amazing grandmother.

Betty was a “rainbow” in the lives of many. She shined on hundreds of students, fellow educators, parents, friends, and family members. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched with kindness, wisdom, and grace.
