Beverly Ellison Nelson was born June 13, 1935 to Clinton M and Hazel Conover Ellison at Beatrice, NE. On September 11, 1955 she married Floyd R. (Bob) Nelson, of Marcus IA.
For twenty-six years she owned The Southwestern Gallery, located first at Cinderella City and then on Littleton Blvd, retiring in 2002. A member of the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, she specialized in creations by Native American and Southwestern Artists.
After attending Doane College and Arapahoe Community College, she graduated from the University of Colorado. In Beatrice she worked for radio station KWBE and the Daily Sun. While Bob served as a United States Naval Officer in San Diego, she worked for the Union Tribune. During her children’s school years, she served as a Girl Scout leader. She also free-lanced both fiction and non-fiction articles.
Besides her family and the Native American culture, her third passion was for genealogy. This led to publishing numerous articles and a family history book. Her membership in lineage societies included: Daughter of Founders and Patriots of America (CO State President); the Mayflower Society; Daughters of the American Revolution (Regent, Mount Rosa Chapter); US Daughters of 1812 (CO State President); Colonial Dames of 17th Century (CO State President); New England Women (CO State President); The Jamestowne Society; and Dames of the Court of Honor.
She is survived by her son, Martin R (Cathy) Nelson; and daughters, Theresa M (Daniel Lowe) and Kirstin A (Michael Madziarek); and five grandchildren: Megan and Allyson Nelson (Austin Updike); Travis (Katharina) and Kelsey Lowe (Bradley Creagar); and Thomas Madziarek (Victoria); great-grandsons: Sven Lowe and Hendrex Madziarek.
She was preceded by Grandsons Drew and Kylar Nelson, brothers Bernard, Marvin and Vernon; and her husband Bob.
