Bret Eugene Fuller, beloved son, father, husband, grandpa, friend, and outdoorsman passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 64. Though his life was tragically cut short, he will be remembered for the immense amount of life he fit into his years.
Bret was born to Wayne Arthur and Evelyn Rose Fuller in Ames, IA, where he and his brother Doug grew up, a chapter that set the stage for a life of boundless adventure. He graduated from Ames High School in 1979, where he excelled in the classroom and in the pool. From there, Bret received his Bachelors degree in Math Science from Stanford University in 1983. At Stanford he was an active member of Phi Delt Fraternity and numerous club sports. Over the decades he remained a loyal fan of both the ISU Cyclones and Stanford Cardinal.
In 1987, Bret married Janaan Zender and they were married for 24 years. They welcomed two daughters, Morgan and Kelly. Bret was an enormously proud father, always present at his girls’ events and undoubtedly their loudest cheerleader. He took pride in sharing his passions with them and cherished every moment they spent together, often seizing the opportunity to embarrass them.
Bret led a successful career in software and IT at Ask and then Oracle, a career marked by numerous achievements but also his extraordinary ability to lead and manage. Upon retirement, Bret moved to Colorado, where he adopted his beloved dog Roxy and later met and married Roxanne Green in 2021. Becoming a grandpa was Bret’s most recent joy.
His lifelong passion for hunting and fishing was unrivaled and known by all. His hunts took him around the world, with his favorite trips being those he shared with his family and friends. After each hunt, he could be found telling stories and happily grilling game meat to share with all.
Bret will be forever remembered for his selfless heart and relentless care for those he loved. He was always generous with his time and resources, investing in other’s dreams as much as his own. He had a unique sense of humor and a gift for telling stories that could make the whole room erupt with laughter. He truly was larger than life and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Bret was preceded in death by his mother Evelyn and his brother Doug. He is survived by his father Wayne, wife Roxanne, daughters Morgan Fuller Kolsrud (Brede) and Kelly Fullmeyer (Mitch), his four granddaughters Lily, Kayleigh, Taylor, and Brooke, and step-children Payten Green (Steve) and Austen Green.
A celebration of Bret’s life will be held on Sunday, August 24th, at the Roxborough Park Foundation Community Center from 11am – 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation or Safari Club International.
