Brett Lafferty Obituary

Brett Michael Lafferty, born on Oct. 7, 1990, died on April 13, 2019 at the age of 28. He was born in Denver, Colorado to parents Cheryl Lee Lafferty and Kenneth Leon Childress, Jr.

Brett was a loving and devoted father to, and is survived by, his three sons – Dakota Jay Yingling (9), Pheniox Kale Yingling (6), and Brett Michael Lafferty, Jr. (3), and their mother Ashly Yingling, as well as his daughter – Lacie Kay Lafferty (6), and her mother Rose Martinez. He is also survived by his five siblings – Nicole Marie Lafferty, Travis Lee Vance, Skyler Jacob Thomas, and Kenneth Leon Childress, III.

Brett was treasured by his grandparents Shirleen and Lawrence Woods, and was the cherished nephew of Christine  Anne and Mark Thomas Hanson, Jason Matthew Lafferty, and Chelsy Woods Klein. He was close with his cousins Daniel Tyler Hanson, Jacob Alexander Hanson, as well as Emily Shay Klein. Brett was also beloved by Scott Vance and Deann Grady, Elizabeth and Robert Vance, Sr., Robert Vance, Jr. and Melody Lawrence.

Brett was preceded in death by, his great-grandparents Ruby and Raymond Porter, his grandma Virginia Lafferty, and his great-uncle Stephen “Steve” Porter. He was blessed to be close to each of them, and they, in turn, had a lasting impact on Brett’s life – even post-humorously – thus, helping shape him into the man he would grow to become.

Gifted with a huge heart, a playful spirit, a fantastic sense of humor, Brett was a friend to many.

Brett lived most of his life in Littleton, attending Littleton Public Schools and Arapahoe Community College for auto-mechanics. From an early age, Brett was fascinated with cars and loved tinkering with things. He was such a devotee of Chevy’s that he even had it tattooed on his arm – which was not only a show of devotion to the brand, but also to his uncle Steve, who fostered an early love of Chevy’s, often working together to fix up Steve’s Monte Carlo.

He loved being outside, working and playing outdoors as often as possible. Brett liked hunting, camping, and going for hikes with his children. He was a natural athlete and loved playing sports, especially with his children. As often as he could, Brett loved watching his oldest son, Dakota play soccer.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 6-8 p.m., and the funeral service will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 10 a.m., both at the Drinkwine Family Mortuary in Littleton, immediately followed by burial services at the Littleton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please contribute to Brett’s memorial fund directly under his photos to the left. The family wishes to share their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and condolences, as well as all of the support that has been given throughout this difficult time.
