Brian Birklid Obituary

In loving memory of Brian William Birklid

Brian William Birklid died at home unexpectedly in his sleep on Tuesday, September 17th 2024, at the age of 35. Brian is survived by his wife Allison, parents Brent Birklid and Bonnie Nolan, Stepfathers Joe Walden and Chris Nolan, siblings Amanda (Jesse) Long, Tony (Jessi) Nolan and Christopher Nolan, grandmother Marceile Birklid, grandfather Chet (Diane) Yancey, Grandmother Judy Oliphant, Uncle Eric Birklid, Aunt Becky (Lauren) Reynolds and many more loving extended family members.  Brian was preceded in death by his grandfather Gary Birklid, grandfather Monte Oliphant and Grandmother Susan Yancey.

Brian was born on February 5th, 1989, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Starting as a young child he was adventurous, independent and fearless. He never wanted to be told no. Growing up he was fiercely loyal to his friends and family, always taking care of those he loved, starting with his great-grandmother Dottie. Above all, family came first. Some of his fondest memories were made at the family cabin at Lost Lake, AK. Brian loved to bike, boat, jet ski, snow machine and snowboard. He would pride himself on being able to take apart an engine and put it back together, work on his own vehicles and would rarely ask for help. He was strong, he was determined, (sometimes a bit stubborn) and so much fun to be around. Always wanting a grand life, Brian was a big fish in a little pond.

During his first year at the University of Alaska Fairbanks he met the love of his life, Allison. One date, and their lives were forever changed. They have been inseparable for nearly 16 years. They were soulmates. True love. That once in a lifetime love, and anyone that came around them knew it. Brian and Allison married on May 25th, 2013 surrounded by over 250 of their loved ones. They moved to Denver, Colorado two months later. The mountains were calling, and they knew they must go. In true Brian fashion he arranged the entire move, packing their lives into a 30’ enclosed trailer to be able to bring his grandfather Gary’s ’56 Ford F100 with him on their 3,000-mile journey. If Brian wanted to do something, he would make it happen.

Once in Colorado, Brian pursued a career in Real Estate. He often spoke of how fortunate he felt to have found his dream job at such a young age. In recent years, he developed a passion for woodworking. Their home is a showcase of Brian’s work, every inch of the home is made with his blood, sweat and tears. There was truly nothing this man couldn’t do.

Brian also loved the finer things in life. He loved to travel. Summers were spent camping in the beauty of Colorado with his wife and their English bulldog Bailey, the second love of his life. He visited London, Paris, the Caribbean and more. In his eyes, Maui was paradise on Earth. He had dreams of traveling the world, dreams that Allison intends to live out for him.

Brian touched so many lives, in big ways and small. He was a caretaker, a protector and the life of the party. If you’re a friend, you’re family. He will live on in all our hearts.

Family and Friends were asked to share a word or two that reminded them of his kind soul:

Loyal, Loving, Selfless, Considerate, Confident, Strong, Brave, Caring, Protector, Proud, Caretaker, Determined, Kind, Funny, Adventurous, Ambitious

A Celebration of Life will be held at Brian and Allison’s home September 27th from 4-8pm.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Alaska summer 2025.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be mailed to 5194 S Pearl St, Littleton, CO 80121, to help Allison with unforeseen expenses.
