Colleen Rotter Obituary

Colleen died peacefully on September 17th.  Her immediate family was by her side through this long battle with Dementia/Alzheimer’s and other complications.

Colleen was born on December 11th, 1939, in Friend Nebraska to John Gill and Margaret Gill (Eisenbarth).  She was baptized on Christmas Eve, 1939, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Friend.  Colleen grew up near Friend Nebraska and lived on the family farm during her early years. She attended a country school where her mother was the teacher.  The family later moved to the town of Friend where she graduated from Friend High School.  She had many dear friends that she kept in touch with throughout her life.

She met John Rotter early in her life and they were married on January 2nd, 1960.  They were happily married for 62 years and 9 months.  Colleen was the proud mother of four sons.  Mike, Tim, Matt, and Brian were all born in the 1960s.  Her main calling in life was to raise her four boys and take care of her family.  Colleen worked as a secretary for several years and was a teacher’s aide in the Jefferson County Public Schools.  The family lived in Nebraska for years and moved to Colorado in 1972.

Colleen was a charter member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church.  She was active in the church, helping for years with funeral dinners, and was also a 30-year member of the Adoration Chapel.

Colleen loved spending time in the outdoors with her family.  She loved camping, fishing, and discovering new and beautiful places that the Colorado Rockies had to offer.  During their retirement years Colleen and John enjoyed traveling in their motorhome.  She never missed a sporting event that her sons were competing in which included football, baseball, Tennis, basketball, track, and soccer.

Colleen is at peace now and watching over all of us.  She is preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret Gill, brothers Tim and Jack, sister Peg Schernikau (Gill), and brothers-in-law Richard Crossiant and Donald Schernikau.

She is survived by her husband John, sons Michael (Brenda), Timothy (Dana), Mathew (Julie), and Brian (Megan).  As well, her beloved six grandchildren Jack, Annika, Adam, Sean, Luke, and Emmy.  Colleen is also survived by her sister Mary Jane Crossiant (Gill) and sister-in-law Francis Gill (Wachter).

The Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 6th at 10:30 am at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Littleton Colorado.
