Dolores Fischer Obituary

Dolores Ann “Dody” Fischer passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026 on a beautiful afternoon surrounded by her loving family.  Dody went to be with our Lord and her husband Eddie in much the way she lived – with grace and beauty, a light breeze and sunshine coming through the windows, hummingbirds and songbirds just outside.

She was born to Peter and Ida Meissner on December 8, 1930 in North Dakota and was raised on the family farm near Glen Ullin with her four sisters Helen, Florence, Marion and Kathleen, and brother Ray.  She graduated from Glen Ullin High School in 1947, went on to attend the College of St. Benedict where she obtained a degree in medical technology, then worked at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.  She met the love of her life Eddie Fischer at a dance in Bismarck (she was very impressed with his brand new Pontiac!), and they were married on July 5, 1951.  Eddie and Dody started a family, bravely pulled up roots and moved to Colorado in 1953. Eventually the family grew to six children – Vicki, Brian, Lisa, Carol, Randy and Mary.  Eddie passed in 2012 and grandson Neal in 2011, but Dody is survived by all her children, their spouses, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grand-children.

Raising six kids in Littleton, Dody was the “best of moms”, always loving and cheerful, providing a nurturing home full of faith and attentiveness.  She and Eddie put all the kids through school at All Souls Catholic Parish, where they were some of the founding members. Mom baked hundreds of loaves of homemade bread, countless incredible meals, and earned a well-deserved (and widespread) reputation for her skills in the kitchen.  She was also an accomplished seamstress, a master gardener, a performance singer, talented pianist, and loved to travel with Eddie.

Over the years Dolores earned the nickname of “The Dode” which perfectly represented her quick wit, love of a simple joke and always-positive attitude.  She made many friends in her life, and so many people came to love and admire her.  Dody wanted or needed very little, but gave much – what an extraordinary example of a life well lived!

She will be sorely missed, but her legacy lives on in the way she raised her family, her long loving marriage, and by her simple lessons and examples.  She made everyone feel special.

A Rosary will be held at All Souls Church in Englewood at 9:30am on Thursday, June 25 with Funeral Services immediately following at 10:00am.  A reception will follow for all of us to celebrate Dody’s long and wonderful life, also at All Souls Church.
