Donald Keith Perkin, Jr. was born on July 11, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, and passed away on February 10, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.
Don dedicated 30 years of his professional life to Mountain Bell, where he met Thelma. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Known as a gifted storyteller, Don delighted friends and family by sharing his life experiences. His stories, filled with wisdom and humor, brought people together and left lasting memories for all who listened. If you knew Don, you knew about his pet chicken “Pecker” while attending college at Mesa State.
Don was also a baseball and football coach for his sons, sharing his love of sports and teaching valuable lessons both on and off the field. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the camaraderie and challenge of the game throughout his life.
A lifelong Broncos fan, Don supported his team through good times and bad, always cheering them on with enthusiasm and pride.
Don was also a passionate coin and stamp collector, finding joy in the history and stories behind each piece in his collection. His sister-in-law once took him to a town in Georgia where special gold coins were minted, a trip he fondly remembered.
Don was a history major, graduating with a degree from the University of Denver, with a particular love for US history. He could often be found reading lengthy presidential biographies, always eager to learn more and share his insights with others.
Don was a true music fan, with a special love for the Rolling Stones and jazz. He checked the Stones off his bucket list in 2021, attending a live show in Las Vegas with his son Greg, Sandra’s brother Gregg, and Gregg’s son Nick.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Donald Sr and Ruth Perkin, as well as his twin sisters, Patty and Susie.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Thelma; his two sons, Greg and Eric; and their spouses, Sandra and Merry Perkin. He was a proud grandfather to Paolo, Quinn and Camille Mann-Perkin, and Raven and Sparrow Reasons. Don was also an uncle to three nieces, Tracy, Lisa, and Julie, and he cherished his extended family deeply. He is also survived by his favorite dog, Cody—the family still debates, “we don’t know who rescued who.”
Don will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers the family agrees Don and Cody would prefer donations to the Safe Harbor Lab Rescue. https://www.safeharborlabrescue.org/
