Longtime Littleton resident and local dentist Dr. Douglas William Hindman peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 2nd, 2023 at the age of 84. Born March 30th, 1939 in Boulder, Colorado to Clell and Lillian Hindman, Doug was the eldest of three sons. He grew up in Herrin, a small town in southern Illinois. After graduating from Herrin High School in 1957, he received his Undergraduate Degree from the University of Michigan. Subsequently, he attended the University of St. Louis where he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1964. Doug served his country honorably as a dentist in the United States Navy from 1964-1966. He served one tour in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division stationed at Chu Lai. After his Naval service, Doug moved to Littleton Colorado to begin his civilian dental career and raise his family.
Doug loved being a dentist in the “small town” community of Littleton. He grew his family dentistry practice from a small single chair practice on Littleton Blvd. to a thriving multi-chair practice on South Broadway. He prided himself on providing quality dentistry, knowing his patients, and being that “small town doctor” with excellent chair side manner.
He was a loving husband and father and dedicated the next 40 years of his life to what became a large blended family. He married his loving wife Karen on April 1st, 1978. Together, they raised their family of seven. He was very proud of the fact that all of his children graduated from college.
In 2002 he retired from dentistry and began a very active retirement life with Karen. They enjoyed many trips throughout the world, golf, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with family. In 2007 they moved to Anthem, Arizona, enjoying the warmer climate and year round golf. In 2015, they moved back to Littleton to be closer to family and spend more time watching the grandchildren grow.
Throughout his life, Doug had a passion for hunting and fishing, particularly the many trips to South Dakota for pheasant. He had a curiosity about the world and other cultures and enjoyed traveling the world. He was an athlete and lover of sports with a rather intense passion for hockey and Michigan Football- Go Blue!. He really enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren as they participated and excelled in their selected sports.
Doug is survived by his wife, Karen; children Chris, Doug Jr, Kitty, Kim, John, Stephanie and Matt; brother Roger; his grandchildren, Ryan, Shane, Douglas Hindman III, Faith, Steven, Joey, Kasey, Ozzy, Page, Ashley, Emily, Bennett, Sidney, Shelby; and many loving relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his first wife Margaret, mother, Lillian; father Clell; and brother Gary.
