On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, our sweet boy Ethan Thomas Hunley, passed away. He was 24 years old. The depth of this tragedy is far reaching, as he is survived by many relatives: father Brandon Hunley, mother Jamie Baker, stepfather John Baker, siblings Charlotte Rose and Alexander, his nana and grandpa Terri and Don Stange, mamaw and papaw Cindy and Ken Duty, grandpa Kelly Hunley, great grandfather Ervin Daugherty, and innumerable aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
From a very early age, Ethan loved all things magical, mystical, and fantastical. From books about dragons, wizards and Lords of Rings to video games like Assassin’s Creed, Halo, and Destiny. He loved shows like Lucifer and Supernatural, and absolutely loved Dungeons n Dragons. He had all the Dungeon Master’s guides and listened to Critical Role podcasts for hours on end. He loved history and was always learning about new discoveries being made. He wasn’t always the best at losing, but he loved playing board, card and video games with family and friends. He enjoyed working on cars with his dad and going out on the boat with his nana and grandpa. He treated everyone with care and respect and if you needed the shirt off his back, it was yours.
Ethan was born with congenital heart disease, and we almost lost him at a mere three days old. Every day since has been nothing short of a miracle and a blessing. This amazing boy fought through eight surgeries and several valve placements in order to bless us with 24 years of love and joy.
Our time with him was borrowed and not long enough, but his fight is over. No more fear. No more surgeries. This amazing young man, who survived so much in his short life, will forever be remembered and missed; our Super boy. We love you forever and always.
Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at Drinkwine Family Chapel.
