George Wells Obituary

George Gray Wells (1938-2025)

G. Gray Wells was a loving, compassionate man with a giant heart.  He was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1938 and passed away in Denver, Colorado on February 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Gray was the son of George Wells and Helen Gray, and brother to his older sister Elizabeth Eichel Follett. He graduated from McKeesport High School in 1956, attended Penn State University and Allegheny College, where he then matriculated into medical school at Temple University, obtaining his medical degree in 1964.

Following medical school, Gray joined the United States Navy, where he served as Lieutenant from 1964-1968.  He took pride in our country, and wanted to support our soldiers who selflessly served our country and communities. He spent one year at sea during Vietnam, and was then stationed at the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Gray returned to Denver in 1968 to spend the next 5 years training in orthopedic surgery.  He entered private practice for the remainder of his career in Denver.  His love for helping others, in and out of the hospital, followed him everywhere.   After retiring from practice, he joined the faculty at the University of Colorado, helping train orthopedic surgery residents.

Gray met his wife, Linda McGuire, in Denver, Colorado in 1976.  Linda and Gray married at Montview Presbyterian church in 1977.  His love for Linda was second to none, and demonstrated by his unwavering support and care for her up to his final days of life.  Linda was his rock, and she was his.

Gray is survived by his wife Linda, sons Christopher and Zachary.  Chris and his wife Tara have two beautiful children Cora Ames (9) and Gray Edward (7).  Zach and his wife Katherine, have two beautiful children Vivienne Sutton (7) and George Oliver (4).

Gray loved spending time with his family.  Whether it be reading stories to the little ones, or visiting the zoo; they all had a special bond with Grandpa.

Gray’s favorite pastime was fishing.  Catching trout on a river or stream was one of his biggest joys in life.  He loved to share this special time with his family and friends.  Because of Gray, his children and grandchildren have all taken the bait.

G. Gray Wells, a man of integrity, empathy and love.  He will be missed, but not forgotten.
