Gregory Don Galyon, age 76, of Highlands Ranch, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 10, 2025. He was born September 21, 1949, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of the late Don and Omega Galyon.
After spending his youth in Kansas, Illinois, and Colorado, Greg earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado and went on to build a long and successful career in the oil and gas industry.
Greg was a brilliant man, with a deep love for precision - so much so that he continued using a slide rule for his calculations long after most of the industry had moved on. At just 25 years old, he was promoted to a management position. His boss told him, “You are already doing the work of four people, so you may as well lead the team.” As his career progressed, Greg enjoyed doing excellent work for clients, collaborating with people he respected and mentoring up-and-coming colleagues.
Greg was also a highly skilled athlete. From football games with friends in the backyard of his childhood home, to pickup basketball in college, softball leagues in his twenties, tennis in his thirties, skiing in his forties, and weightlifting throughout his fifties, sixties, and seventies—he embraced it all. He even spent a few years as a popular aerobics’ instructor.
Greg deeply valued the friendships he made throughout his life, particularly the one with his colleague Wayne, who became the best friend he ever had.
Family was extremely important to Greg. At family gatherings, in the company of his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins he was often quiet, but simply being there - watching and taking it all in - brought him deep joy.
Above all else, Greg loved being a father to Eric, Mandy, Jack, and Brooke. He coached Eric’s basketball team, attended Mandy’s school plays, drove Jack all over the state for soccer games, and watched Brooke cheerleading. He cherished seeing his children grow into adulthood and took great pride in the contributions he made to their lives. He was equally thrilled in his role as grandfather to Alex and Aubrey and always looked forward to their sign language concerts. Greg was happiest when surrounded by his children, children-in-law, and granddaughters.
Greg was preceded in death by his eldest son, Eric Todd Galyon. He is survived by his younger son, Jack Douglas Galyon; his two daughters and son-in-law, Amanda Galyon Hall (Torrence) and Brooke Michelle Galyon; granddaughters, Alexis Kathlyn Galyon and Aubrey Belle Galyon; and siblings Jeff Galyon (Lynn), Judy Drake (George), Linda Young (David), and Cheryl Schulz (Dean). He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Broomfield Commons Cemetery.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Drinkwine Family Mortuary.
Greg’s life was defined not only by what he accomplished, but by the people he loved and the lives he shaped along the way. We were lucky to have him.
