Jane was born April 19, 1937 in Lordsburg, New Mexico. She grew up in there, but spent a great deal of time at her grandfather’s ranch.
Jane attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri for two years before transferring to Arizona State University to obtain her BA, and later her MA.
After obtaining her MA, Jane applied to and was hired by the Littleton Public School District in Colorado, where she taught 5th grade for 31 years and 6th for 1 year..
Jane was much more than a classroom teacher, volunteering for many district committees to help develop and evaluate new curriculum . She fought for teachers’ rights at the local, state and national levels as a member of the LEA, CEA and NEA (Littleton Education Association), Colorado EA and the National EA and was even appointed by Gov. Love to a statewide teachers’ commission.
Jane participated in campaigning for local school board elections as well as state officials and worked tirelessly toward the incorporation of the City of Centennial. That political activism continued to the end of her life.
Jane began volunteering at the Christian Living Communities as soon as her mother was admitted and continued to volunteer long after her death. Jane was very proud to have won the Earthen Vessel Award (which she often referred to as the “Clay Pot”) for Volunteer of the Year from all CLC’s campuses.
Jane belonged to Rainbow Girls, the Order of the Eastern Star , P.E.O. and Delta Kappa Gamma. She joined Eastern Star at the age of 18 and was a member at the time of her death. Jane was a 58 year member of P.E.O.
Jane loved to travel! She visited many countries in Europe and the British Isles, visited most of the US states and many parts of Canada, always visiting any local zoos or wildlife areas. However, her all-time favorite trip was the safari she took to Kenya.
Jane joined Denver Zoo the first year she arrived in Littleton. She was able to attend many behind the scenes tours and was a member of Denver Zoo’s Heritage Society. Jane was a staunch supporter of the Katie Adamson Conservation Fund, a local organization organized in honor of a teen volunteer at Denver Zoo, Katie Adamson, who passed away before her 21st birthday. KACF began small and is now an international presence.
Jane passed away on January 12, 2026 due to complications from COPD.
