Herbert Alan Wager, husband and devoted father, passed away, with his only daughter at his side, at 8:11 am on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
Herb was born in Potter County, South Dakota on December 7, 1948, to H. Arthur Wager and Maudie (Paulson) Wager. During his early years, he attended rural schools in Potter County. In approximately 3rd grade, his family moved to town and he finished his education at Gettysburg School. In high school, he played for the Battler football and basketball teams. He ran track and played the cornet in the marching band.
He graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1967. He attended the University of South Dakota, and Northern State University. From Northern State, he obtained a degree in business and math. He also attended Metropolitan State College of Denver where he took business classes.
He met his future wife, Judy Simon when they were 17. Judy “hooked” him by holding on to his belt loops as they roller skated at the auditorium. Herb and Judy were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg on July 3, 1971.
After they were married, Herb worked at a fertilizer plant mixing fertilizer. Feeling that his career was unfulfilling, Herb and Judy moved to Denver, Colorado in 1973 so that Herb could pursue a career in his field.
After working briefly for a recreational equipment company, Herb spent the remainder of his career as an accountant and network administrator for Warren Fluid Power in Denver and Fiero Fluid Power in Arvada. Herb and Judy lived in various places throughout the metro area, before making a permanent home in Littleton, Colorado in April 1979 before the expected birth of their daughter.
Herb retired in 2015. In early 2016, he moved with Judy to Castle Rock, CO to be closer to their only child. He became active at the Castle Rock Senior Center and the Arapahoe Bowling Center.
Herb loved camping in the Colorado mountains. He enjoyed being a member of the Mountain Goats Camping Club. He also loved photography (and briefly owned a photography studio), traveling, and bowling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Hugh Arthur Wager and Maudie Paulson Wager, brothers Vern Wager, Jim Wager, and Chuck Wager, sister Violet Wager Hansen and his wife, Judy Simon Wager. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Wager Cofer, Son-In-Law Daeron Cofer, Granddaughter, Madison Cofer, Step-Granddaughter Jaclyn Cofer, Goddaughter Erin Hansen VanderVeen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Castle Rock Church of Christ, 2247 5th St. in Castle Rock, Colorado on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 2:00 PM. A private gathering for family will be held following the Celebration. Drinkwine Family Mortuary in Littleton is handling cremation.
