Irene Adele Shain entered her eternal rest on November 8, 2024 at her home in Highlands Ranch, CO. Irene was born in Gary, Indiana, on October 26, 1933 to her parents, Sophia and Benjamin Bolewski. After college, Irene headed out to Colorado. It was here that she met her husband, Albert Shain. They married in June of 1968 and enjoyed fifty years of marriage until his death in 2018. Al always referred to Irene as “Sparky” for the boundless energy she brought to their lives.
Irene is survived by her sisters, Dorothy Shanker and Patricia Petroff. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Jeffrey Shanker, Karen Levin, Carl, Greg and Neil Petroff, Laura Thorstad, Michael and Karen Shain, along with their spouses and children. A special thanks to her caretaker, Mary Bergren, who cared for Irene in her past years.
Besides Irene’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edmund Bolewski, and niece, Audrey Wills.
Irene taught school in the Cherry Creek School District where she enjoyed instructing youth and instilling a love of reading both as a teacher and librarian. She spent a year teaching in Australia on a teacher exchange program. Al and Irene enjoyed extensive traveling across the world. Skiing, tennis, bridge and working crossword puzzles were passions in which she excelled.
Services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21st at Drinkwine Family Chapel at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Ft. logan National Cemtery at 1:00 PM.
