Irene Strauss

Irene Morehead was born on January 26, 1927 in Nelson Nebraska to Virgel and Nellie Morehead.   She grew up on a farm as the youngest of 5 sisters and 1 brother.  At the age of 13 she and her family moved to Colorado and eventually settled in Englewood.  Irene attended Englewood schools until 1943.  She worked at Gates Rubber Company where she met her future husband.   Irene and Terrell Strauss were married on November 27, 1946 in Colorado Springs, Colorado by the Justice of the Peace. 

Irene gave birth to 5 sons.  Between 1946 and 1959 Terrel was a printer by trade and Irene was a factory worker until they purchased the K Bar C in Kittredge.  In 1959 they traded the bar for Santa Fe Golf in Englewood which they operated until 1981 with the help of the boys, cousins and friends.  Irene and Terrell were lifetime members of the Littleton Elks Club where they enjoyed weekly dancing, bingo, bowling leagues, golf tournaments and socializing with friends.  Terrell and Irene enjoyed many adventures with Ports of Call and traveling to visit friends and family.  They moved to Sun City, Arizona in 1990.  Unfortunately, Terrell  passed away in 1992.  Irene continued living there where she led a full life including golf, cards with friends, participated in Senior Olympics, was a member of the Bocce Club.  She enjoyed coming back to Colorado in the hot summer months to visit with friends and family.  In 2015, because of health issues, she moved to The Gardens at Columbine in Littleton where she resided until 2021.  Irene then moved in with her son Ritchie and his wife Phyllis and their family where she received loving care until her passing. 

Irene is survived by her sons and their wives Cary and Charlotte, Ritchie and Phyllis, Ed and Anna, Terrell and Chris as well as Shirley Ehmann and many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Irene's life will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Drinkwine Family Mortuary. Irene will be laid to rest with her late husband, Terrell, at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, Colorado.
