Jim was born in Briscoe, Missouri to Leslie and Georgia Bell Chandler. In 1942 he graduated from the University of Missouri and joined the Navy. He served his country on D-Day at Omaha Beach and later in Kwajalein during Operation Crossroads. After returning home he started a family, moved to Colorado and became a successful independent businessman working in manufacturing, testing services and art and antiques. He loved spending time with his family and friends, gardening and dancing. Survivors include his sister Geneva Wright, son Don Chandler, daughter Catherine Block, 4 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. His death was preceded by his second wife Jean Chandler and sons, Bob and Dave Chandler. He passed away peacefully at home.
He will be interred at Fort Logan, October 23 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at First Plymouth Congregational Church at 2 p.m.
