Janice Holland-Muir Obituary

Janice was born in Ogdensburg, NY on April 24, 1935, the only child of Walter and Marion Besio Hering. Growing up on a small dairy farm in upstate New York involved many chores, daily fun with horses, cows, chickens, cats and dogs. A special project raising turkeys for the holidays added extra work for several years. Janice attended a one room schoolhouse through eighth grade, then attended Canton High School.

She was a Regents Scholar at Syracuse University and graduated with a BS Degree in Speech Education in 1956. Janice belonged to Delta Delta Delta sorority and enjoyed the university social life and excitement of the big city. She met and married Francis J (Bud) Holland, Jr in Syracuse in 1956.

Jennifer Marie and Francis Joseph III were born while living in Syracuse. A move west so Bud could learn the oil pipeline business in Scottsbluff, Nebraska brought the birth of Melissa Ann. The young family moved further west to Denver, Colorado and Mary Janice and William Walter joined the family. As soon as they moved into their first and only home in Littleton, Colorado, Amy Catherine was born.

The six Hollands occupied every grade in their elementary school. Janice volunteered at least once as room mother in each child’s classroom and tried to stay involved at every level. Raising six children was her occupation, her calling.

Bud was killed in November 1977 leaving Janice with two daughters in college, a son working in the oilfields and three children still at home in high school.  Finally, an empty nester, she married Robert G Muir in Hawaii on January 1, 1986, and she added four stepchildren to the bustling brood. They enjoyed travel and golf and attending many graduations, weddings, and births.

Widowed once again in September 2007 with the loss of Rob, Janice kept busy enjoying her large family and liked playing golf in the par 3 ladies league. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending the book club. Three sons-in-law enjoyed great relationships with her, and she excelled as a grandmother of eleven and a great grandmother of nine.

Janice suffered more loss with the death of son Francis in 2016 and daughter Melissa in 2019. She persevered with faith and patience.  Though her last few years were difficult with pulmonary fibrosis, she adjusted to the ever-present oxygen and stayed as positive as possible. She died in Littleton, Colorado eight days before her 88th birthday. Our valiant matriarch can finally rest from her labors, and we pray she knows we loved her dearly and appreciate her every sacrifice. We love you forever. We love you the mostest. XO
