Joan Diehl-Goston Obituary

Joan Gail Diehl-Goston was born on January 21st, 1936 in McKeesport, PA.  Her parents were Jacob Diehl and Agatha Marie Maake-Diehl. Joan lived and grew up in Pennsylvania with her older brother Jack Diehl.  Her parents divorced and Jack and Joan moved to San Francisco with their mother.  Jack was six years older than Joan and he took responsibility raising her.  Her two younger brothers, Tommy Diehl and Guy Stice, were born in California, in which she helped raise.

At the age of eighteen, Joan would meet a handsome sailor by the name of Stanley Goston at the local coffee shop where she worked.  Stanley asked Joan out many times before finally agreeing to go out with him.  The whirl-wind romance lasted three months and they were married on March 15, 1954.  Their daughter Judy was born in San Diego, and shortly thereafter Stanley was honorably discharged from the Navy.  They moved to Colorado and a year later Joan gave birth to her son Stanley.

Joan and Stan purchased a new home on Cherry Dr in Littleton, CO.  She loved water skiing, camping, entertaining, gardening, decorating and fun times with family and friends.

Joan worked for Littleton Public Schools as food service manager for 49 ½ years.  Her husband Stanley passed away on May 3rd, 2000, after 46 years of marriage.  She continued to work for the schools until May of 2012.  After her retirement she spent time loving her little dogs.  She was truly an advocate for animals.

Joan is survived by her daughter Judy Goston, her son Stanley Goston, her grandchildren Stanley Goston, Jessica Porwoll, Mandi Goston and her great grandchild Matthew Porwoll.

A memorial service will be held in her home in Centennial on January 21st at 2:00 PM.  January 21st would have been her 86th birthday.  Please help us celebrate her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like very much a donation in Honor of Joan to the Humane Society of South Platte Valley in Littleton.  She held a special place in her heart for animals.

 DO NOT STAND
BY MY GRAVE AND WEEP.
I AM NOT THERE.
I DO NOT SLEEP.
I AM A THOUSAND WINDS THAT BLOW.
I AM THE DIAMOND GLINTS
OF SNOW.
I AM THE SUNLIGHT
ON RIPENED GRAIN.
I AM THE GENTLE AUTUMN'S RAIN.

WHEN YOU AWAKEN
IN THE MORNING HUSH,
I AM THE SWIFT UPLIFTING RUSH
OF QUIET
BIRDS IN CIRCLED FLIGHT.
I AM THE SOFT STARS
THAT SHINE IN THE NIGHT.
DO NOT STAND
BY MY GRAVE AND WEEP.
I AM NOT THERE.
I DO NOT SLEEP.
